And we’re off! After two very wet and windy days after a perfect week of flying for the Niviuk Red Rocks Wide Open thankfully the weather gods have once again played nice (well- pretty nice!) with the Global Rescue XRedRocks and we kicked off day one with a fun but really challenging task from Wales up north heading south. The Pro and Adventure Divisions had to tag a big cylinder on the east side of the valley before continuing on, and the Challenge Division just had to fly to goal in Manti. Here’s a screenshot of the Pro task, which in the end only one pilot got to- Brian Cooper:

We had reports of quite a few of our athletes doing 30+ miles on the ground day one. Ouch! Tough way to start. The flying after most pilots launched was slow but good, but as the day progressed it remained stable and the move out into the flats proved to be a death glide for everyone. Nearly all pilots just continued down the road, but Brian Cooper and Isaac Llammers both crossed the valley and got up high on the west side and relaunched. Brian squeaked it in, Isaac came up about 10 km short but a heck of an effort by everyone at every level today. The launch and the conditions were really tricky.
Results from all divisions can be found here. And we’ve got an AWESOME new live tracking page by Garmin, check it out here: https://xcdemon.com/tracking_xrr_beta.php?leagueappid=31&event_id=345 Follow along, the racing is ON!
